چکیده

Purpose : The objective of this study was to develop background gradient correction method using excitation pulse profile compensation for accurate fat and T2* quantification in the liver. Materials and Methods: In liver imaging using gradient echo, signal decay induced by linear background gradient is weighted by an excitation pulse profile and therefore hinders accurate quantification of T2* and fat. To correct this, a linear background gradient in the slice-selection direction was estimated from a B0 field map and signal decays were corrected using the excitation pulse profile. Improved estimation of fat fraction and T2* from the corrected data were demonstrated by phantom and in vivo experiments at 3 Tesla magnetic field.

Background Gradient Correction for Water and Fat Quantification in 2D Liver Imaging

Introduction Fatty infiltration of the liver is one of the primary features of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Therefore, accurate quantification of the liver fat content is an important factor in detecting hepatic diseases. MRI is an efficient noninvasive tool for assessing liver fat content. A commonly used liver fat quantification technique with MRI is a dual echo imaging (two gradient seq...

Non-invasive quantification of liver fat content by different Gradient Echo MRI sequences in patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Introduction: Non-invasive quantification of liver fat by Gradient echo (GRE) Technique is an interesting issue in quantitative MRI. Despite the numerous advantages of this technique, fat measurement maybe biased by confounding and effects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the GRE pulse sequences with different   and  weighting for liver fat quantification in patients with...

R2/R2* estimation errors in combined gradient- and spin-echo EPI sequences due to slice-profile differences between RF pulses

Introduction There is increased interest in a combined acquisition of gradient-echo (GE) and spin-echo (SE) signals for applications in DSC-PWI and fMRI. One of the main reasons is the different sensitivity of GEs and SEs to different compartments of the underlying microvasculature. While GEs are sensitive to both static and dynamic dephasing of spins, SEs are sensitive to dynamic spin dephasin...

Hadamard Slice Encoding for Reduced-FOV Single-Shot Diffusion-Weighted EPI

Introduction: A reduced field-of-view (FOV) single-shot EPI (ss-EPI) method that uses a 2D echoplanar RF (2D-EPRF) excitation has recently been proposed for high-resolution DWI [1]. This method takes advantage of ss-EPI’s robustness against motion during diffusion encoding gradients. Furthermore, it allows for contiguous multi-slice imaging without the need for slice skip. However, there is a l...

Feasibility of T2* Estimation with Chemical Shift-Based Water-Fat Separated Cardiac Imaging

Introduction T2* mapping has been investigated in cardiac MRI for imaging the myocardial BOLD effect [1] and in iron overload assessment [2]. Advanced T2* estimation techniques in the context of chemical shift-based water-fat decomposition have recently been developed for iron detection in organs such as the liver, while simultaneously estimating fat content [3]. Separately, chemical shiftbased...
